What are the conditions for classic vehicle status?

• The vehicle is more than 30 years old
• The vehicle has a valid roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) — including mopeds
• The model is no longer in production
• The vehicle has not been modified (for example, fitted with a bigger engine that was never available from the factory)
• The vehicle is not used for professional purposes

What are the advantages of classic vehicle status?

• For vehicles subject to roadworthiness testing, the test is only required every 5 years instead of the usual 2
• Vehicles first registered before 01/01/1960 no longer need any roadworthiness test at all
• The roadworthiness test for classic vehicles is less strict than the standard one
• Classic vehicles are exempt from the low-emission-zone restrictions on older, more polluting vehicles in large cities
• For imported vehicles, the FFVE attestation stands in for the certificate of conformity, unlocking French registration

How do you obtain classic vehicle status?

The current holder or the buyer must first obtain an FFVE attestation. The FFVE (Fédération Française des Véhicules d'Époque, the French historic vehicle federation) is the body that checks whether the vehicle meets all the criteria, based on a file containing a questionnaire and a specific set of photos.

The attestation costs €60 (€30 for 50 cc two-wheelers). Once you have it, the file is submitted electronically to ANTS to obtain the new carte grise carrying the « véhicule de collection » mention.

Which documents do you need for the FFVE attestation and then the updated carte grise?

• Copy of the carte grise (both sides)
• Valid national ID card or passport
• Driving licence (if you have just bought the vehicle)
• Proof of address less than 6 months old
• If you are hosted: an accommodation certificate, your host's proof of address (less than 6 months old) and a copy of their ID
• The registration certificate application (CERFA 13750*05), completed and signed
• The mandate to a professional (CERFA 13757*03) if you entrust the procedure to an authorised professional
• FFVE attestation (obtained by yourself or through us)
• A valid roadworthiness test, or one less than 6 months old if the carte grise is not yet in your name (including for mopeds)
• Valid certificate of insurance
• Transfer certificate CERFA 15776*02, or purchase invoice if the vehicle was bought abroad

How much will your carte grise cost?

• The FFVE attestation costs €60, or €30 for mopeds of 50 cc or less
• If you already hold the carte grise, the modification costs €13.76 (excluding the service fee of the professional handling the procedure for you)
• If you have just bought the vehicle, you pay the normal price of a carte grise for a vehicle over 10 years old, calculated according to your department of residence — use our registration cost calculator for an estimate
• Our service fee is €100 if we obtain the FFVE attestation for you, or €40 if you already have your attestation

• Driving licence

• A signed accommodation certificate from your host
• Your host's proof of address (less than 6 months old)
• A copy of both sides of your host's ID card
