Everything you need to know about the duplicate carte grise

Before you start

Before anything else, check that your roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) is still valid: if it is not, you will first need to order an FIV (vehicle identification report) so you can pass the test, because it is impossible without the original carte grise. That procedure is available from the site's home page. Also check that the address on the carte grise is correct: if you never registered your change of address, we will have to submit the duplicate request through ANTS, which takes considerably longer.

Document checklist

  • Valid photo ID: national ID card, passport or residence permit
  • Proof of address less than 6 months old (if there are co-owners, provide the proof of address of the person whose address will appear on the carte grise)
  • Registration certificate application (Cerfa form 13750*05) (Download CERFA form 13750*05)
  • Authorisation mandate (Cerfa form 13757*03) (Download CERFA form 13757*03)

Who can apply?

  • Only the holder or co-holder of the damaged, stolen or lost carte grise can apply for a duplicate.
  • If your vehicle is on a lease, the carte grise is in the name of the owning organisation (finance or leasing company). Report the loss to them and they will send you a mandate authorising you to complete the procedure.
  • A minor who holds a carte grise for a 50 cc moped cannot apply for a duplicate themselves. The application must be signed by the person or institution holding parental authority or custody rights.

Case 3 — Damaged carte grise

At the end of the procedure, you receive:

The indicative total cost is €53.76: €13.76 in fixed taxes (€11.00 processing tax + €2.76 delivery fee) plus our €40 service fee.

Note: if your registration number is in the old format 1234 AB 56 (FNI format), you will be issued a new number in the format AB-123-CD and will need to fit new plates.

Keep the damaged carte grise, as you may be asked to produce it. You can destroy it 5 years after receiving the duplicate.

Your carte grise is delivered by secure post, usually within 4 to 7 business days.
