Duplicate registration certificate

First, complete a declaration of loss or theft using Cerfa form 13754 (for a theft, also file a report with the police or gendarmerie). Then apply for a duplicate carte grise. Before applying, check that your contrôle technique is still valid — without the original carte grise you cannot take the test, so you may first need a vehicle identification sheet (FIV). Also make sure the address on file is current, otherwise a change of address must be processed first.

Typically: Cerfa 13754 (loss/theft) or evidence of damage, ID, proof of address less than 6 months old, licence and insurance as required, Cerfa 13750, and a mandate if you use an accredited professional. For theft, attach the police report. A valid roadworthiness test may be required depending on the vehicle’s age and situation.

The FIV officially identifies the vehicle when you no longer have the carte grise (loss or theft) and need, for example, to take the roadworthiness test.
