Classic / collector vehicle registration

The vehicle must be over 30 years old, of a model no longer in production, and kept in its original configuration (no engine swaps or other modifications that were never factory options). It must not be used commercially, it needs a valid contrôle technique (this includes mopeds), and you must obtain an attestation from the FFVE (Fédération Française des Véhicules d’Epoque). Collection status brings real advantages for imported classics: the FFVE attestation can replace a missing Certificate of Conformity, and the contrôle technique is only required every 5 years.

The FFVE charges 60 € for most vehicles, reduced to 30 € for mopeds of 50 cm³ or less. This is the federation’s own fee for reviewing your file (questionnaire plus a set of specific photos of the vehicle) and is separate from the carte grise taxes and any service fee.

Yes, a valid contrôle technique is required to obtain collection status, including for certain two-wheelers under the applicable rules. Once the mention is granted, the interval is generally extended to 5 years for the categories concerned. Always keep a valid test report with your file.

Yes — it is one of the most common cases. The FFVE attestation can compensate for a missing COC on an older imported vehicle, provided the age, originality and non-commercial-use criteria are met. The French registration file then relies on the attestation, identity, French address and proof of purchase / import.
