Just moved house? In 2026, article R.322-7 of the French Highway Code gives you one month to update the address on your registration certificate (carte grise). This is not a duplicate and not a change of ownership: the keeper stays the same; only the domicile changes. - Legal deadline — 1 month from the move date (calendar days).

SIV sticker: how to affix it
Keep the old carte grise until delivery. Place the sticker exactly on the dotted lines around the previous address. Without the sticker affixed, the title stays inconsistent at roadside checks.
FNI → SIV switch
You receive a new number in AB-123-CD format. Fit the new plates, update your insurance and any subscriptions (toll, parking). This is not number-plate fraud: see plate cloning / new number if you are a victim of cloning.
Do not confuse
- Change of address — same keeper, new domicile.
- Change of ownership — new keeper after purchase / transfer.
- Duplicate — lost, stolen or damaged title.
- Transfer declaration — sale or gift of the vehicle.
Documents required in 2026
- Carte grise (readable scan of the original);
- Proof of identity for the keeper (and co-keeper if any);
- Proof of address less than 6 months old at the new address;
- Cerfa n°13750 — registration certificate application;
- Cerfa n°13757 — mandate, if you use an accredited professional.

Standard “house move” files go through quickly. In 2026, what really blocks progress are special cases:
- Leasing / LOA / LLD — the registered keeper is often the lessor: you need a lessor mandate. Do not force the public flow; use other procedures or contact.
- Import / foreign plates — if you settle in France with a vehicle still registered abroad, this is no longer a simple address change: use foreign vehicle registration (+ tax clearance (quitus) for EU or form 846A outside the EU / UK, often temporary WW plates).
- Temporary WW — useful while building a French import title; it is not an SIV address sticker.
- Classic / collection vehicle — the move remains a classic address change; the collection mention is handled separately via classic registration / FFVE.
- Tax clearance (quitus) — an EU import tax document, unrelated to a simple French domicile update.
- Lost / unreadable title — plan a duplicate (sometimes combined with the address update).
- Sale right after moving — declare the address first, then the transfer; the buyer continues with change of ownership.
FAQ — address on the carte grise
Do I need to change my plates after moving?
No in SIV format (including the 4th change, which reissues the title but keeps the same number). Yes if you switch from FNI to SIV: new plates + inform the insurer. Start on change of address.
Is the ANTS mandatory to change the address?

Can I change the address if my vehicle is on lease?
Only with a lessor mandate (keeper shown in field C.1). Without that document, go through other procedures or contact.
