Change of ownership of a French used vehicle
This is done by the new owner (and his co-owner) electronically on the ANTS website, or on a site such as officecartegrise.fr, or through an authorized automotive professional.
The buyer has one month from the date of purchase of the vehicle to apply for the change of ownership on the registration certificate.

List of documents required for change of registration card holder
- Valid identity document: identity card, passport or residence permit
- Valid driving license adapted to the category of the vehicle you want to register: for example, you will need the motorcycle license to put a motorcycle in your name
- Proof of address of less than 6 months (or, in the case of joint holders, proof of the one whose address will appear on the registration card)
- Valid insurance certificate
- Application for registration certificate (cerfa n°13750*05)
- Mandate (cerfa 13757*03)
- Vehicle registration card, crossed out with the words “Sold on (day/month/year)” or “Transferred on (day/month/year)”, and with the signature of the former owner (or all co-holders if there were any)
- Proof of a roadworthiness test less than 6 months old, unless: the vehicle is less than 4 years old, or it does not fall into a category subject to inspection (for example: two-wheelers, trailers, caravans, quads, cars without a license).
Optional documents:
- The receipt of declaration of purchase if you bought your vehicle from an automotive professional
- Hosting certificate from the host (template to download)
- Proof of address of the host less than 6 months old
- Valid identity document of the host: identity card, passport or residence permit
- Valid co-holder’s identity document: identity card, passport or residence permit

How much will your registration card cost?
The cost of the registration card is variable. It depends in particular on the characteristics of the vehicle, its age and the region in which you live.
You can estimate the cost of your registration certificate using the government simulator.
At the end of the procedure, you get :

You will receive your registration card in a secure envelope in general within 4-7 working days.
However, the delay may be longer if your application is incomplete or needs to be analyzed by the service
The manufacture of the registration card can only be launched at the end of payment and validation.
Good to know : the conversion of an old registration (type 123 AB 01, known as FNI) into a SIV number has no consequence on the validity of the roadworthiness test. The roadworthiness test report serves as proof.
If you are absent when the postman comes, a delivery notice will be left for you. You then have 15 days to retrieve your document from La Poste (or give power of attorney to a third party to do it for you). After this period, the title is returned to the sender. You will need to contact us to have it returned to you.
Note : you must keep the old registration card for 5 years, then destroy it.
