Correcting an error

A wrong mention on your registration certificate can block a sale or a check. Here is how to get it corrected.

There is a mistake on my carte grise — a misspelt name, wrong VIN or wrong details. How do I fix it?

Errors do happen — a misspelt surname (common with non-French names), a wrong model, serial number or seat count. The correction is free of registration tax, but you must provide proof of the correct information: your passport or ID for a name error, or the manufacturer’s documents for technical details. Send us the details and supporting documents and we will submit the correction request for you.

Is correcting an error free of charge?

Correcting a clerical error on the certificate is generally free of regional registration tax (no fiscal-horsepower recalculation as for a change of ownership). A professional service fee may apply if an accredited professional handles the file. The exact cost is shown before you confirm the order.

Which documents prove a misspelt name?

Provide a valid national ID card or passport and, if needed, a civil-status record. Exact alignment with your official identity is essential. Also attach the current carte grise and recent proof of address.

How do I correct an error on the VIN or technical data?

Rely on official manufacturer documents, the certificate of conformity, a roadworthiness test report or an identification attestation. Without solid proof, the administration may reject the correction. We help you build a coherent file before submission.

How long does an error correction take?

Once the complete file is accepted, processing follows the usual certificate path: acknowledgement or CPI where applicable, then the corrected carte grise within a few business days. Extra documents requested by the administration will extend the timeline.

Can I sell the vehicle with an error on the carte grise?

It is strongly discouraged and often blocking: the buyer may be unable to register, and the transfer file can be rejected. Correct the error first, then proceed with the sale declaration and change of ownership. That avoids disputes and repeated administrative loops.

Can the correction be done online?

Yes. Upload your evidence through our secure flow; we check the mentions to correct and submit the request. You can then track progress until the new carte grise arrives.
